The Challenge
Wesgroup Properties, a leading Canadian real estate developer managing large-scale construction projects across multiple regions was undergoing a broader IT strategy refresh. Throughout the assessment, one theme surfaced repeatedly - data. Leaders recognized that fragmented analytics, undefined data roles, and inconsistent reporting were limiting decision-making.
Instead of waiting for a full enterprise data strategy initiative later in the year, executives sought a fast, focused “data strategy prequel” - a short engagement that would clarify direction, highlight gaps, and build organizational momentum. At the same time, the leadership team was curious about generative AI and wanted a practical proof of concept to understand where it could drive value.

Data Elephant was engaged to run a condensed but high-impact 4-week engagement that combined foundational data strategy assessment with a real GenAI use case tailored to the client’s work.
Our approach included targeted stakeholder engagement and interviews, high-level roadmap and architecture validation, a GenAI Proof of Concept to bring strategy to life and unify structured and unstructured data on capital projects into actionable summaries, and a modern Microsoft stack demonstration leveraging Copilot Studio, Azure AI Search and Dataverse.
This pragmatic approach replaced bureaucracy with collaboration - and demonstrated that governance could accelerate, not slow down, data-driven outcomes.
